Gitanjali Rao, a 15-year-old Indian-American kid from Colorado, United States of America, has been named by TIME magazine as the first-ever 'Kid of the Year'.

The initiative recognises extraordinary young leaders who are bringing about a positive change in the world. Last year, climate activist Greta Thunberg became the youngest ever person of the year when she was given the honour at age 16.

Gitanjali Rao has invented not one, but a quite a few, new technologies across a range of fields. Her inventions include a device that can identify lead in drinking water and, an app and Chrome extension to detect cyberbullying with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Gitanjali was selected from more than 5,000 nominees as TIME's first-ever 'Kid of the Year'. She was interviewed by actor and activist Angelina Jolie.

She not only wants to solve these critical world problems but also inspire others to do the same.  She says, “If I can do it, you can do it, and anyone can do it.”
