Our minds are getting more restless with every additional confirmed case of COVID-19. In a situation like this, we should first understand the terms that are commonly used these days - isolation, quarantine, lockdown and social distancing.
Social distancing implies lessening physical interaction with other people, which means at least a gap of 6 feet between people. Social distancing doesn’t mean one needs to sit at home but can go out for necessities or take a walk. She or he should not interact in groups and should maintain a good physical distance from others.
Lockdown is taken during emergencies. This stops the movement of the people and restricts them from leaving a particular area. It is usually imposed by the government to stop the spread of the disease.
Quarantine restricts the movement of people who were earlier exposed to a contagious disease to see if they become sick. These people may have been exposed to a disease and do not know it, or they may have the disease but do not show symptoms.
Isolation is for those who have been tested positive for a contagious disease. It is the most extreme degree of separation. They are isolated or monitored separately so that they do not spread the disease. Their only contact are the doctors and nurses.
